Tardive Dyskinesia

Abstract
This is the first case report of tardive dyskinesia in this country. At first oral dyskinesia and then full-blown tardive dyskinesia developed after 10 years prolonged medication of major neuroleptics. Complete withdrawal of any neuroleptics and administration of-several anti-parkinsonian agencies for one year did, not any good to dyskinesia. On admission haloperidol 6 mg. daily and lithium carbonate 1200 mg. daily were administered. Haloperidol daily dose was gradually increased to 9 mg. in a week. One week after his admission tardive dyskinesia disappeared completely and dramatically. To prove the effectiveness of haloperidol, haloperidol was withdrawal for two days with the result of reappearance of dyskinesia.
However withdrawal of lithium carbonate did not bring any change. Haloperidol administration has been continued for 6 months but mild dyskinesia begins to reappeared 4 months after his admission.
